LAWL lyrics

We only have 3 songs now. live with it.

http://kechewnutrecordslawllyrics.blogspot.com/

LAWL coming to a close...yay??!!

SPM SPM SPM go to hell !!! That piece of crap is finally out of our lives...okay its a little bit late to say that...I know there has been a lack of updates lately.... 2 months, to be specific. Thats a long time...enough to make a fortune if u work in mcdonalds...my apologies.

I know i promised that the lyrics will be posted up on freedom day (26 november) but i had to work on my next project, which will be out next year (2008 lar) so I won't touch on that yet. Zwee will be bringing the lyrics to my place tomorrow. Well, today la cos its already 9th december. No, i don't have the lyrics. I don't even know the lyrics to some of the songs haha. So zwee'll post 'em up when he arrives.

Jebat is currently busy with his Malaysian Philharmonics Youth Orchestra thingy so we won't be seeing him for some time. Visit this site http://www.mpyo.com.my/ for more info and tour dates if u wanna see him in action. He plays first violin and he also happens to be my violin teacher. Yes he IS LUCKY to have such a good student like me. Just kidding... i give him migrains every week.

I also promised "thank yous" so here goes. Thanks to: (in no particular order)

  1. my fellow "lawl" partners jebat and zwee. Always punctual and dedicated, they gave their 100% throughout the whole process from the planning to the sales. Note that the lyrics of the songs were done by those two bunch of bananas. Jebat even composed a song himself (track 7 - life after we leave). They also helped out with the concept of this album. Thanks for doing such a good job and giving such great performances during "studio" sessions. Hope you had fun.

  2. The consumers, mostly our classmates who have invested their hard saved money on our product. Thanks for making this project a success by placing your trust on us and supporting us. Without you, the three of us will be gaying around while listening to the album. With you, the more, the merrier, the gayer haha. Hope that the album will bring back sweet memories in years to come.

  3. The bunch of belians who inspired the track "Norela remix", which was circulated even before the album was released.

  4. The Yi Shen, the Kah Shin, the Ang and the Dom, who lent their voices in track 10 - speech.

  5. Haw Yang for being our official salesman and using his skills to con people lol and lending his voice in track 4 - norela.

  6. Zean who inspired the name "lawl" when i saw his msn name, kah shin who's pen became the front cover and the shoe for providing the front cover.
  7. Sian Hoo, who introduced me to the world of audio engineering. Without him, none of this would exist. Including this site, this project and this idea.

  8. Lastly, thanks to everyone else not mentioned above. Ngo apah, ngo amah...wan li's dog, Ranger for betraying me for yi shen.

One thing i noticed about this blog is that it lacks pictures. So, feast your eyes:

The "LAWL" album progress chart haha.

Zwee's favourite tool in life.

Then there's the amazing facts about the "LAWL" album project:

  1. Every sound was recorded using an RM6 mic (which was surprisingly good).
  2. "The cheater" was the track that took the longest time to mix.
  3. The recording of "Philip the boy" did not involve any musical instruments. All sounds were produced using our mouths and hands.
  4. The only musical instruments used were my classical guitar, jebat's acoustic guitar, a pelangi mod maths book and my form 1 paint brush which was used to hit the mod maths book. This means that no electric guitar, bass guitar or drums were used. Of course, softwares were used to apply effects to mimic the sounds of these instruments.
  5. Jebat only came for 2 recording sessions, which was more than enough for him to nail his parts down nicely.
  6. "Norela remix" was recorded before "Norela".
  7. "Life after we leave" was the only track that involved only one of us, that is jebat. He wrote it, composed and played the guitar parts and sang the song.
  8. The idea of this project started when Zwee and I were fooling around in my room.
  9. I was working on the album cover during Zean's birthday party. AMAZING!

Oh yeah. I'm currently working on the official music video for the song "Life After We Leave" which will be our FIRST and ONLY official single being released from this album. In case some of you were wondering why i was filming during the two class parties, it is to be used to make this video. It is not for personal satisfaction lol. It was supposed to be released about a week ago, but I'm having a few problems with it right now, so it'll take much longer. Hopefully before prom night. So, look out for that one.

Yes, we're officially back in action like looney tunes back in action.

LAWL album - Production PART TWO! and the darn finished product!

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away.....wtf??! star wars is supposed to be modern and yet it says "a long time ago??!" Is George Lucas a comedian or a film director??!!

So, after my hour-long stay at jebat's i realized i wasn't happy with the balance of volumes in tracks "the cheater", "5 batai" and "keep ur hands off my butt". The voice was too soft, drowned by the guitars and other sounds. So, i spent another couple of hours balancing those again and again...and again ! dammit! But those hours were worthwhile cos im really happy with the finished product. I listened to every detail till i was happy and gay like wendy. That's practically the summary of my job in this project...listen to it over n over till i get bored of it. I also noticed that the CD sounds best when played using speakers with big bass sounds such as using a sub-wolfer or stuff like that. So, if you can, use those for best pleasure.

Thus, the tracklist is as shown below...

  1. Philip The Boy (opening, intro, wtv u wanna call it)

  2. The Cheater

  3. 5 Batai

  4. Norela

  5. Hey There Vanessa

  6. Keep Your Hands Off My Butt

  7. Life After We Leave

  8. Farewell (closing, the end, scary movie 4)

  9. Norela (remix)

  10. Speech

We placed the two last tracks under the "BONUS" category so that ppl will fall for the impression that they are getting more than they paid for a.k.a. marketting gimmick no.1! So, yea! U can roughly tell which songs we chose to adapt from by the titles of the tracks. ROUGHLY?!! Its f**king obvious!

The burning of the CDs also took quite long cos yes, im a noob in that. But at least im learning right? RIGHT??! We decided to make only 30 copies so that it will be like one of those limited edition albums (yeah right!) so i invested in the physical raw materials to make just that number of copies.

The design of the cover n stuff was done by me while the rest were at Zean's surprise party...Sry Zean! Forgive me, m'lady! U know i'll give anything for YOU! It was pretty rushed, so wether u like it or not, u'll have to accept it as it is!!! Zwee, Jebat and I had a tele-conference through msn while they were at Zean's and we debated on the price of the CD.

Team A,consisting of me, had to defend the stand RM 15 per album/CD while Team B, consisting of the other two had to rebut and persuade me to settle for RM 12. Clearly, they were the underdog so i gave them chance to win. Nola..... i lost. They brought me back to the good side, away from the dark side where shadows lurk. Hence, lolz , the album will be sold at the price of RM 12! I expect a "YAY!"....

For the physical packaging, i wanted to get some free labour from some ppl in class to help out. Wan li invited us over for some open house thing and i took advantage of that moment....so there they were-Dom, Ethan, Cheri, Yi Shen, Hy, Zwee and Ang...working as hard as Santa's slaves (elves). I WISH!!! I'll be damned, if they even got off their butts!!! In the end, it was only Yi Shen, zwee n I who did the dirty job. But all was well cos the rest entertained us with their smelly armpits.

Well, there you have it! The summary of how this project was made. Though the original plan was to release it on 1st oct, we apologize cos up to now, it still hasn't reached ur ears yet. But u must understand that the delay was caused by the extra time needed to polish it so it will be a good experience for u guys. However, all 30 copies are now eagerly waiting to reach ur doorstep soon. We promise it will reach you somewhere near the end of this month. Ciaoz! and we hope you'll invest in this album cos u wont be dissapointed.

LAWL album - Production PART ONE!

Recording started on 9th i think. We were supposed to practice our darned parts before that sunday but lawl being lawl, we din give a shit. They came to my place in the morning and it was the three of us working or asses off. That was plan A but as always, plan A is just for show and to hide the true intentions of plan B. Having said that, my room was packed with not three, not four, not five, but six pieces of critters! Haw Yang and another two people who zwee brought over (not mentioned for national security, whatever that means!) joined zwee and I as we watched jebat record his parts. WATCHED. Which isn't a bad thing cos jeb could only make it for two sessions. The rest of us pretty much vommited gibberish and disturbed world peace while jebat kept shushing us.

The next sunday, it was the same thing but with quan and kit over. They slept over at zwee's the night before and had nowhere to go. I couldn't leave them outside by the road cos I'm such a nice person. With their presence, some of the tracks have traces of their voices and farts. The one i clearly remember with their voice in it is the intro of track 5. The day went by just like the first session did. Jeb spent the whole 2 hours inputing the vocals and guitar parts while the rest did a foursome, though sadly it was non-sexual..... =(

On the 23rd, however.....or was it 30th? Can't remember , but whatever the day was, recording was pretty much done except for the final track. Its a no-nonsense track so zwee n I called yi shen the smart ass, dom-d-hood, Angster-X and kah shin over to be part of the track. We wanted more people but like Haw Yang says, "Masa itu mencemburui kita". Unfortunately, with this bunch of bananas, the only no-nonsense track became THE nonsense track.

The rest of the days were spent on mixing, editing and recording some bits and pieces of zwee's and my parts which took much longer than i expected. Oh! now i remember...the date was 23rd, not 30th. Cos the damned editing, mixing and effects work was done until the 29th. Then there was the volumizing to balance the different instruments.

The recording of Zwee's and my parts was pretty easy though cos we've done that track before. Its the only track with a remix. On the gloomy night of 29th, where the mist hung in the air, I rushed through the mastering of the tracks which included making all the tracks the same volume so that when u guys listen to it u wont go deaf due to the sudden increase in volume from one song to the next.

30th, went to jeb's place for lessons in the morning and we sampled the very first "complete product" of the album there and then. He turned the volume so low that i could barely hear nuts cos some of the lyrics was not suitable for parents.

LAWL album - Pre-production

Nope, we didn't wait till trials was over. At least not the other two. As i buried my nose in revision books, they were picking the songs that are to be adapted as well as thinking of which new songs to include. At that time, the tracklist was quite different from what it is now. We decided to throw in the two tracks zwee and I worked on, namely Norela Remix and Philip The Boy. At the very end of time, we decided to make it a ten track album. What the other 8 songs are? Maybe I'll reveal it later on.....or maybe you guys will know only after you purchase the CD! kekeke.

Then, the duo started penning down the lyrics for the tracks that were decided. They did it during classes i think...especially during physics and other "miscellaneous" periods where the teacher talks cock and bull stories just to spice up their lives. This went on for pretty much the following weeks before the recording began. Sometimes they'll show me the lyrics they came up with and I'll be like "huh?, what? oh! huh?".

LAWL album - What?!!

It was errrmmm.....weeks before spm trials that we thought of the idea. Probably in late july or something like that. Not sure cos im lost in time right now. Anywayz, "we" are the group "lawl", consisting of 3 weird, "aspiring" and you could say experimental "artists", namely, kelvin (me, I, wtv), zwee and jebat (a.k.a. jebat, zwee and kelvin or zwee, jebat and kelvin if we were to be picky about who's name appears first!) .

It all began when my homie (lol..) sian hoo and I were talking bout some recording software that he had during some random interact meeting. I got interested and started my research in this topic and finally stumbled upon a software called kristal audio engine. I experimented with it immediately using an RM6 microphone/headphone and my computer to record. It was user-friendly and i did "keep ur hands off my girl" by GC for the sake of doing it. The results were.....hehe.....not bad?

Bout 2 weeks later, zwee n I were bored of doing something (i forgot what it was) so I told him bout the software. After 4 hours of hell, we layed down the track Norela Remix (adaptation of the song Umbrella by Rihanna - we just changed the lyrics). Then , out of sheer boredom again, we made another track called Philip The Boy which was a work of our own. Btw, every sound wave in these 2 tracks were made solely by inputing sound into that cheap mic of mine. From knocking paintbrushes on mod maths revision books to mimic the sound of the drum snare, to making native sounds with our god given pie holes (mouths), we harnessed our energy and creativity to do the best we could (FUIYOH!).

Just before trials started, the two tracks were already sent to a few of our schoolmates and overall it can be concluded that they found it entertaining......right? =P Then fate must have had a plan for us (or some kind of similar fortune telling BS punchline) cos our work fell into the hands of jebat, who was also in the same class. You see, jebat is also a slave to music and a talented musician as well (As well = plural = 3 of us = including me = kekeke). Okla, all 3 of us know how to play some musical instruments but jebat is the overall best in music. So, the group "lawl" was born and we started to "talk cock" and plan an album project for our class.

P.S. The group name "lawl" was decided after seeing Zean's msn name which was "lawl" as well. I think what he meant was "lol" but i guess he was just trying to be funny but failed miserably. Coincidentally, the initials of "lawl" could represent the phrase "Life After We Leave (LAWL)" which is now the name of the album. The phrase obviously means life after we leave school. So,

  • Group name - lawl (small letters and has no particular meaning)
  • Album name - LAWL (big letters and represents the phrase "Life After We Leave")

Reason for this project? you could say its for nostalgic purposes like for when we're old and grey, before we die, we can listen to the idiots we were back in 2007. Instead of having plain old photo filled CDs to look at, we'll have some audio to feed our deaf ears and hardened eardrums filled with disgusting earwax!! Unfortunately, we had to wait until after trials to start production.
