LAWL album - Pre-production

Nope, we didn't wait till trials was over. At least not the other two. As i buried my nose in revision books, they were picking the songs that are to be adapted as well as thinking of which new songs to include. At that time, the tracklist was quite different from what it is now. We decided to throw in the two tracks zwee and I worked on, namely Norela Remix and Philip The Boy. At the very end of time, we decided to make it a ten track album. What the other 8 songs are? Maybe I'll reveal it later on.....or maybe you guys will know only after you purchase the CD! kekeke.

Then, the duo started penning down the lyrics for the tracks that were decided. They did it during classes i think...especially during physics and other "miscellaneous" periods where the teacher talks cock and bull stories just to spice up their lives. This went on for pretty much the following weeks before the recording began. Sometimes they'll show me the lyrics they came up with and I'll be like "huh?, what? oh! huh?".

LAWL album - What?!!

It was errrmmm.....weeks before spm trials that we thought of the idea. Probably in late july or something like that. Not sure cos im lost in time right now. Anywayz, "we" are the group "lawl", consisting of 3 weird, "aspiring" and you could say experimental "artists", namely, kelvin (me, I, wtv), zwee and jebat (a.k.a. jebat, zwee and kelvin or zwee, jebat and kelvin if we were to be picky about who's name appears first!) .

It all began when my homie (lol..) sian hoo and I were talking bout some recording software that he had during some random interact meeting. I got interested and started my research in this topic and finally stumbled upon a software called kristal audio engine. I experimented with it immediately using an RM6 microphone/headphone and my computer to record. It was user-friendly and i did "keep ur hands off my girl" by GC for the sake of doing it. The results were.....hehe.....not bad?

Bout 2 weeks later, zwee n I were bored of doing something (i forgot what it was) so I told him bout the software. After 4 hours of hell, we layed down the track Norela Remix (adaptation of the song Umbrella by Rihanna - we just changed the lyrics). Then , out of sheer boredom again, we made another track called Philip The Boy which was a work of our own. Btw, every sound wave in these 2 tracks were made solely by inputing sound into that cheap mic of mine. From knocking paintbrushes on mod maths revision books to mimic the sound of the drum snare, to making native sounds with our god given pie holes (mouths), we harnessed our energy and creativity to do the best we could (FUIYOH!).

Just before trials started, the two tracks were already sent to a few of our schoolmates and overall it can be concluded that they found it entertaining......right? =P Then fate must have had a plan for us (or some kind of similar fortune telling BS punchline) cos our work fell into the hands of jebat, who was also in the same class. You see, jebat is also a slave to music and a talented musician as well (As well = plural = 3 of us = including me = kekeke). Okla, all 3 of us know how to play some musical instruments but jebat is the overall best in music. So, the group "lawl" was born and we started to "talk cock" and plan an album project for our class.

P.S. The group name "lawl" was decided after seeing Zean's msn name which was "lawl" as well. I think what he meant was "lol" but i guess he was just trying to be funny but failed miserably. Coincidentally, the initials of "lawl" could represent the phrase "Life After We Leave (LAWL)" which is now the name of the album. The phrase obviously means life after we leave school. So,

  • Group name - lawl (small letters and has no particular meaning)
  • Album name - LAWL (big letters and represents the phrase "Life After We Leave")

Reason for this project? you could say its for nostalgic purposes like for when we're old and grey, before we die, we can listen to the idiots we were back in 2007. Instead of having plain old photo filled CDs to look at, we'll have some audio to feed our deaf ears and hardened eardrums filled with disgusting earwax!! Unfortunately, we had to wait until after trials to start production.
